The LUNGevity Foundation, a nationwide lung cancer charity, will hold a "Breathe Deep Westport 5-K Walk & Fun Run" fundraiser at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Sherwood Island State Park.

Registration will begin 8 a.m., followed by team photos and program 9 a.m. and closing ceremony 11:30 a.m.

The event, the charity's first fundraiser in Westport, is being coordinated by Martha Unker, a lung cancer survivor, to help educate the public on lung cancer and raise funds for research into early detection and targeted therapeutics.

All walkers will receive a T-shirt.

Featured speaker will be Dr. Roy S. Herbst, chief of medical oncology and associate director for transitional research Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven.

There will also be raffle prizes.

Registration fees are $20 for lung cancer survivors; $25 for adults; $15 for seniors at least 60 years old and students with valid ID, and $10 for youths 13 and under.
