The Westport Public Library will host talks by local entrepreneurs Doug Bernstein and Rick Smilow in a two-part "Insights from Entrepreneurs" series in its McManus Room, 20 Jesup Road.

The first program, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, will feature Bernstein, Westport resident and co-founder of Melissa & Doug toy company. He will discuss how he and Melissa, his wife, began the firm 23 years ago in his parents' garage and grew it to a company with more than 2,000 products sold at more than 15,000 retailers in 80 countries.

The second program, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17, will feature Smilow, Westport resident and president of the Institute of the Culinary Education in New York City, according to a library news release. Smilow will discuss the challenges and rewards of managing a service and education business. In 2011, Smilow was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the International Association of Culinary Professionals, and his company is a four-time winner of the IACP Awards of Excellence for Culinary Schools.

Journalist and NPR reporter Alison Freeland will lead both programs. Call 203-291-4800 or visit westportlibrary.org.
