Letters to the Editor: Thanks for help with 2017 Holiday Toy Drive

To the Editor:

The members of the Westport Police Union and Westport Police Benevolent Association would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the bountiful contributions we received during our 2017 Holiday Toy Drive.

Each year we are able to say how tremendously successful our drive is and we are happy to say again, this year was no different!

Because of our donors’ charitableness and commitment to this cause, we were able to provide gifts to several hundred children throughout Fairfield County who otherwise would not have received toys for the holidays. Toys were distributed to the Interfaith Housing Association (Westport), Norwalk Community Health Center (Norwalk), The Carver Center (Norwalk), Child Guidance Center of Mid-Fairfield County (Norwalk), St. Vincent’s SWIM Center (Bridgeport), Bridgeport Hospital (Bridgeport), St. Charles Urban Center (Bridgeport), and local individual families in need.

The project would not be nearly as successful if it were not for the individuals and local businesses that year after year, show their support, concern, and generosity toward the underprivileged in our area.

Each year as our officers collect the donations, we are deeply touched by not only the generosity, but also the acts of kindness we witness time and again. To see not only adults demonstrate the true spirit of the holidays, but children as well, is truly heartwarming and cannot be described in words.

With thanks from the bottom of our hearts, and special thanks to ASF Sports & Outdoors, 95.9 The Fox, Whole Foods Market-Westport, and Renato’s Jewelers for their continued, faithful support,

Sgt. Jill Ruggiero
