The Westport Woman's Club would like to thank the Westport postal carriers for their time and effort in sponsoring their annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive on Saturday, May 12. In addition, we wish to thank the residents of our community for their generosity in donating the food for our Food Closet. We were the appreciative recipients of an enormous amount of nonperishable food items that were graciously delivered to our clubhouse by many postal carriers.

Mail truck after mail truck, filled with donations, arrived and were unloaded. It was most pleasing to the women of the club to witness the enthusiasm of the postal workers to be, specifically, helping us fill our Food Closet.

The Westport Woman's Club, which has operated our Food Closet since 1975, works with the town's Department of Human Services to meet emergency food needs for Westport families.

Food donations are accepted all during the year -- Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m -- at our clubhouse, 44 Imperial Ave.

Our hope is that we all remember, especially in these difficult economic times, the importance of "caring and sharing."

We thank all those who gave generously, all those Westport Woman's Club members and other volunteers who spent long hours sorting the food and, of course, those letter carriers who diligently delivered the donations at the end of their long workday.

We look forward to coordinating this event with the postal carriers again next year.
