Letter: Shocked by removal of cherry trees at old Y
There are going to be many changes to downtown Westport over the next few years. There has been much discussion about this matter. We are hoping that the people making decisions will not just "rubber stamp" all the suggestions from consultants, developers, etc.
There are many ramifications that have to be analyzed before changes are made. For example, we were shocked to see that the gorgeous trees in front of the old Family Y were taken down. Those cherry trees were so magnificent every spring; they were a wonderful gateway to Main Street. They are gone! We wonder if the town ever realized that.
It is probably easier for the developers of the old Y to not have to deal with those trees, but we will really miss them in the spring.
