Letter: Lavielle champion of environment

There are so many reasons to recommend Gail Lavielle for re-election as our State Representative in the 143rd district. Many previous letter writers already have mentioned her intelligence, mastery of the issues, excellent business background, fiscal conservatism and her record of strong constituent service.
I want to let you know that Gail has been a longtime advocate for the environment. In the legislature she has supported legislation that preserves and protects our environment and our natural resources within a framework of sound fiscal discipline. The bi-partisan League of Conservation Voters endorsed her for re-election, named her as an "Environmental Champion" and gave her a perfect score of 100 percent on her voting record on issues related to the environment. The league recognized Gail's support for reducing harmful levels of phosphorus in Connecticut's waterways and her efforts to address sewage spills and modernize the state's coastal management laws. In addition, Gail has received the endorsement of the Sierra Club based on her strong environmental record.
Gail protected Westport, Wilton, Norwalk and communities statewide by successfully fighting to kill legislation that would have weakened legal protection that ensures free public access to open space. She played a major role in protecting open space by passing legislation to obtain the right to protect the land in 2011.
On Nov 6, the environment doesn't get to vote, but you can vote for it by re-electing Gail Lavielle.
