Letter: Kaner is pragmatic, non-partisan

I have known Avi Kaner for more than 10 years. What has impressed me most about Avi is his unrelenting and non-partisan support for all things Westport. Over the course of my 10 year friendship with Avi, I have voted for Democrats, Republicans and Independents.
Locally, my support is always behind the candidate whom I think is truly devoted to taking the best actions in support of our town. And that's why I support Avi Kaner. He has never taken a national party approach to our town's local affairs. Instead, I have found him to be more representative of a party that should be called the Pragmatic Party. That's because Avi has always done what makes the most sense for us, not what lines up with a party.
As chairman of the Board of Finance, whether he was supporting funds to maintain our school's top notch status or managing the town's budget to prevent major tax increases, Avi has always pushed our community's priorities -- not any particular party.
Westport is fortunate as it is rare to have such an experienced and qualified candidate as Avi running for second selectman. He would be a great asset to first selectman candidate Jim Marpe and to our town. hey are an amazingly qualified team that would work well together for the benefit of all Westporters. I urge you to support Jim Marpe and Avi Kaner for selectmen on Nov.5.
