Just when the Staples girls soccer team thought it would leave Saturday's home match against St. Joseph with one point, it left Loeffler Field empty-handed.

St. Joseph got a late goal from Silvia Yanez to pull out a 3-2 victory and raise its record to 6-0. Staples dropped to 3-2-1.

Yanez' tally answered Ryan Kirshner's goal. Kirshner tied it 2-2 on a header off Alex Wiener's corner kick.

The Cadettes never trailed but their lead never exceeded one. After St. Joe's took a 1-0 lead in the first half, the Lady Wreckers tied it when freshman Maggie Walsh headed in the equalizer from Abbey Lake to tie it 1-1.

Siri Andrews and Megan Root played well defensively for Staples and stymied the Cadettes' attackers. Lady Wrecker goalie Jessie Ambrose made 10 saves.

Lake, Kirshner, Chloe Rosenfield, Walsh and Turner Block had many good runs for Staples on offense but St. Joseph's defense was equal to the task behind goalie Molly Meehan (seven saves).
