Louis A. Rea, 85, of Westport, died July 1, 2010, in Norwalk Hospital.

Born Oct. 22, 1924, in Eastchester, N.Y., a son of the late Michael A. and Maria (Colombo) Rea, he was a resident of Westport for the past 55 years.

Rea was employed as the general manager of Gristedes Market on Main Street in Westport for many years prior to retiring. He then worked part-time for Achorn's Pharmacy and was an avid New York Yankees fan.

Rea served in the U.S. Army with the 45th Division -- Thunderbirds during World War II. The 45th was involved in actions in North Africa, Anzio, France, Germany and one of the liberating forces in Dachau. He was awarded a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.

Survivors include one son, Michael A. Rea and his wife, Carla of Westport; a sister, Jennie M. Rea of Yonkers, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Michael A. Rea III, Alexander L. Rea and Deborah D. Kronick and her husband, David; and one great-granddaughter, Serena Kronick.

In addition to his parents, Rea was predeceased by one daughter, Louise M. Rea; one son, Jack Rea; and one sister, Carmela M. Anthony.

Services and interment are private. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road E., Westport, is assisting the family with arrangements.
