John C. Donaher Jr., of Fairfield, husband of Susan Sherman Donaher, died Nov. 9, 2010.

Born July 18, 1932, in New Kensington, Pa., he graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1954, with a B.S. in business, and in 1960 earned a master's degree in hospital administration from the University of Pittsburgh. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served at the Allied forces headquarters in Paris from 1955 to 1957.

He moved to Fairfield in 1978 from Detroit, Mich., where he had been president of the Detroit Medical Center, to assume the presidency of Doctors Hospital in New York City. In 1990, he was appointed director of hospitals for Aga Kahn in Chantilly, France. He returned to Fairfield upon his retirement. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Westport.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons John of Pittsburgh, Pa., Matthew of Newtown, and Patrick of Fairfield; daughters Tracy of Fairfield and Brigid MacDonald, of Hopkinton, Mass.; siblings Mary Ann Hanna, Ursula Donaher, Catherine Julien and Dennis Donaher all of Webster, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Donaher, and brothers William and Terrence.

Calling hours will take place Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Spear Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road. A Mass of Christian Burial is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Luke Church, Westport. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation, 267 Grant St., Bridgeport, CT 06610.
