John "Peter" Horosky died July 23, 2010, after an eight-year battle with prostate cancer.

Horosky was born on March 8, 1944, in Norwalk, the son of the late John and Evelyn Weingartner Horosky. He graduated from Staples High School, Westport, in 1962 and Norwalk State Technical School in 1965.

He was in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Quonset Point, R.I. He served on the U.S.S. Wasp and the U.S.S. Essex.

Horosky was the owner of Practical Rent A Car in Norwalk for 10 years; worked at Young's of Ridgefield as a rental and parts manager, and prior to his illness, worked as a salesman for Bethel Power in Bethel.

He was an active member of the Gravely Club and Monte Carlo Association.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 41 years, Cynthia "Cindy" Lenz Horosky; daughter Jenifer "Paige" Horosky Silva and her husband Jonathan of Danbury; sons James Peter Horosky and Adam Horosky and his wife Shannon, also of Danbury; two grandchildren Taylor Marie Silva and Jordan Emma Silva; sisters Susan Paptein and husband Walter of North Stratford, N.H., and Sarah Mulhall and husband Dennis of Gaffney, S.C., as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

A wake will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Long Ridge Methodist Church, Long Ridge Road, Danbury, and a "Celebration of His Life" will follow at Two Steps, 5 Ives St., Danbury. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897 or Long Ridge United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 132, West Redding, CT 06896.

The family wants to thank Dr. Robert Cooper and his staff, particularly Marybeth, who was not just his nurse but a friend.
