James R. Chalfant, a Westport resident and World War II veteran, died April 22, 2010.

During the war, he fought in Germany, the Battle of the Bulge and in Belgium and France. He lived in Westport prior to moving to Miami Springs, Fla., in 1960. He worked for the City of Miami before retiring. Chalfant was also an avid bowler who often scored 300, and he loved golf.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Florence; his daughter, Nancy E.; a brother, Clayton F. Chalfant of Westport; and several grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, James W.

Interment was private.
