James E. Freehill, Sr. 77, of Stratford, the husband of Anne (McCabe) Freehill, died Aug. 10, 2010, at home.

Born in New York City on Jan. 27, 1933, he was the son of the late James and Margaret (Hagen) Freehill. Before moving to Oronoque Village in Stratford two years ago, Freehill had lived in Fairfield for 10 years and in Westport for 30 years. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf and spending time with his family.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 50 years, include two sons, James E. Freehill Jr. and his wife Linda of Chestnut Hill, Mass., and Joseph Freehill of Branford; two daughters, Ellen Russell and her husband Peter of Fairfield, and Kate Freehill of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, George Freehill and his wife Barbara of Remsinsburg , N.Y., and Patrick Freehill of Yonkers, N.Y.; a sister in-law, Shan Freehill of Bronxville, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Patrick and Brian Russell of Fairfield, Annie Freehill-Fienberg of Brooklyn, N.Y., Casey Hannah and James E. Freehill III of Chestnut Hill, Mass. He was predeceased by a brother, John Freehill.

The funeral will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, Westport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Ave., Westport. Burial will be in Willowbrook Cemetery in Westport.
