Investigators have no new info on Westport school bus crash
The Friday morning crash of a school bus carrying students from Coleytown Elementary School in Westport, remains under investigation, police said Monday.
The accident -- which sent the driver to a hospital and caused minor injuries to two students -- took place near the intersection of North Avenue and Lyons Plains Road, not far from the town's border with Weston.
The accident investigation is being led by Weston police. According to police Det. Carl Filsinger, the department is still "actively investigating." Filsinger said a standard Department of Transporation inspection on the bus was completed Friday.
Westport contract its bus services to New Britain-based Dattco. The company would not comment on the accident Monday afternoon.
Representatives of Westport's schools system also had no comment and were not aware of any developments in the investigation.
The crash took place around 8:30 a.m. Friday as the bus was traveling north on Lyons Plains Road when it veered off the street, struck a tree and came to rest along a stone wall, Weston police Sgt. Matthew Brodacki, who is leading the investigation, said Friday.
The driver was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment of a possible broken leg.
