Interfaith Thanksgiving service today in Westport

The annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration, sponsored by the Interfaith Council of Westport and Weston, will take place Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Conservative Synagogue, 30 Hillspoint Road.

The service, scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m., will be led by clergy from local churches and synagogues.

Rabbi Yossi Pollak of Beit Chaverim Synagogue will give the sermon, "Borrowed Glory," and a band made up of Weston teenagers will perform musical selections. Light refreshments will be served after the service.

As part of the program, canned food will be collected for donation to local food pantries, and new, unwrapped toys are being gathered for needy children.

"This service is a wonderful opportunity to join together with members of all faiths within our community and realize that we share much in common while giving thanks for what we have," Rabbi Jeremy Wiederhorn, president of the Interfaith Clergy Council, said in a news release.

The clergy council meets monthly to discuss issues facing their congregations, the larger community and the nation as a whole.

In addition to the Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration, the clergy council leads an annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance. The venue for the programs rotates each year between council churches and synagogues.
