WESTPORT — The Westport Historical Society was the place to be Saturday when it hosted crafts, carriage rides and a visit from Santa Claus at its “Jingle Bell Rock: Family Day with Santa.”

“It’s our way of helping people celebrate the holiday,” said board President Robert Mitchell, noting the carriage rides were hosted in tandem with the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Merchants Association.

Activities included a visit from The Silhouette Lady, Deborah O’Connor of Westerly, R.I., who created hand-cut profile pictures of people, ably assisted by volunteers from Staples High School.

“It’s a family day,” Mitchell said, “and this is a great place for them to come.”
