A free workshop about ice dams on roofs and the damage they can cause

will be offered Wednesday,

Feb. 22 at the Westport Center for Senior Activities.

The program is planned from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the Westport Home Energy Challenge, Westport Center for Senior Activities and the Westport Department of Human Services.

Sponsors said the workshop would cover the causes of ice dams, how to prevent them and the damage they can cause. The benefits of a home energy audit and insulation upgrade also will be discussed and information on tax credits, financing options and rebates will be presented.

Home energy contractors will be present to answer questions.

The workshop is part of the Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge, a nonprofit program in 14 Connecticut communities. The program's goal is to reduce home energy consumption of participants by 20 percent.

The senior center is at 21 Imperial Ave.
