The Westport Historical Society will have a photographic exhibit of homes designed by late Westport builder and architect Frazier Forman Peters Sunday, Oct. 2, to Saturday, Dec. 31, in the society's Sheffer Gallery, 25 Avery Place.

An opening reception will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2.

The exhibit, "At Home with Stone and Earth, Air, Water and Fire: The Wit & Wisdom of Frazier Forman Peters," will display 32 color photographs of some of the 36 homes Peters built in Westport from 1926 to 1936, a model of his framing for pouring walls and an original casement window.

The exhibit also will feature a chronology of Peters' life, a map of Peters' Westport homes and a documentary film on Peters, who also built homes in Darien, Alpine, N.J., and Warwick, N.Y.

Peters, educated as a chemical engineer, sought out rock ledge promontories and woodland streams for his homes and used a construction method that featured stone exteriors backed by an interior concrete facing.

Later this year, the society plans to publish a softcover biography of Peters and his work in Westport.
