The starting gun to another successful fall sports week at Greens Farms Academy actually started at a literal starting line as the Dragons’ cross country team kicked things off at the FAA Championship Meet at Sherwood Island Park.

That led to all the varsity teams wrapping up their regular seasons and earning home berths in the upcoming FAA quarterfinals.

Here’s a rundown of how the week went:

CROSS COUNTRY

The GFA cross country teams saw seven of its runners — three boys, four girls — earn All-FAA honors at Monday’s league championship meet at Sherwood Island State Park.

Four girls earned medals as the Dragons earned a third-place finish, just one point out of the second-place spot.

Three boys, meanwhile, finished in the top-20, leading GFA to a fourth-place showing at the meet.

In the girls meet, Caroline McCall (Westport) finished third in the race in 20:00.9, headlining a big meet for the Dragon girls. Haley Nilsson (Fairfield) placed sixth (21:27.8) with Kira McCreesh (Southport), an eighth-grader, coming in seventh (21:45.9). Georgia Palmgren (Darien), another eighth-grader, was 16th in 22:23.6.

McCall, Nilsson and McCreesh were All-FAA First-Teamers with Palmgren earning an All-FAA Honorable Mention nod.

In the boys race, Larson Palmgren (Darien) was sixth in 18:28.2 to take All-FAA first team honors.

All-FAA Honorable Mention runners included Conor Minson (Darien) in 13th (19:05.7) and Owen Minson (Darien) in 16th (19:10.9).

FIELD HOCKEY

Zoe Koskinas (Fairfield) scored twice and Keely O’Shea (Darien) set up three goals to lead Greens Farms Academy to a 4-1 win over Hamden Hall on Tuesday.

Nikki Farber (Westport) notched her third shutout of the season, making three saves.

GFA had the edge 9-5 on penalty corners and outshot Hamden Hall 13-3, holding the Hornets without a shot in the second half.

In the middle of the week, GFA hit the road and went to the always tough Greenwich Academy and battled tough in a 3-0 defeat.

The Dragons had a solid showing from Farber, Kate Millard (Southport), Rari Bellingeri (Stamford), Anna Reynolds (Rowayton), and Kara Ventura (Weston), in the defensive end, facing 13 shots.

The Dragons had four corners (to GA’s 5) and got off two shots on goal.

GFA capped off the regular season with a win over Kingswood-Oxford at home.

O’Shea scored two goals and assisted on the other while Farber notched her fourth shutout of the season as the Dragons topped visiting Kingswood-Oxford by a 3-0 score.

Fran DeVita (Darien) scored the other goal for GFA, which capped off its regular season with a Senior Day win. Holzinger set up O’Shea’s first tally on a penalty corner.

Farber had seven saves on the day, as well.
