Grades 6-7 leadership group forming

A five-week, after-school program that aims to build the leadership skills of middle-school students begins on Thursday, April 3, at the Toquet Hall youth center. Open to students in grades 6 and 7, the Toquet Leadership Club activities are designed to improve communication and problem-solving skills and build resiliency, the town Department of Human Services said. The group will meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays through May 8. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss emerging issues for youth in Westport and identify ways to address those issues. Recorder group to meet

The Recorder Society of Connecticut has scheduled its next monthly playing session for Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Church in Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Road. Conductors for the April 5 sessions will be Karen Snowberg, music director of the Westchester Recorder Guild, and Larry Zukof, executive director of the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven. The session is open to all recorder players. Participants should bring their recorders and a music stand. Suzuki Schools concert

The Suzuki Music Schools of Westport and Orange are conducting a concert featuring Vivace, the senior string group of the school, at 3 p.m. on April 6 at Fairfield Country Day School, 2970 Bronson Road, Fairfield. The performance will be the ensemble's third annual show. The show features music by Journey, Carly Rae Jepsen, Michael Jackson and others. Admission is $10 for adults and children are free.
