The Board of Education plans to meet Monday to formalize appointment of Colleen Palmer as the next superintendent of schools, following what is described as a “successful” visit to Weston to discuss Palmer’s record as schools chief in that town with school and elected officials as well as citizens, Michael Gordon, the board chairman, announced Friday.

The school board will meet to vote on hiring Palmer at 7 p.m. in the Staples High School cafeteria.

Palmer, who has been superintendent in Weston since 2011, will replace Elliott Landon, who will retire in the spring after 17 years as superintendent of Westport’s public schools.

On Thursday, Gordon said, board members were joined by Westport parents, teachers, administrators and elected officials on the Weston visit. They met in groups with Weston school representatives, staff, parents and elected officials to discuss their views of Palmer.

Palmer was identified by Westport board members last month as the lone finalist to replace Landon, pending completion of a background check and the site visit to Weston.
