The new Westport Goodwill Store at 1700 Post Road East will open on Friday, March 23.

To mark the store's opening, Goodwill board members and local community leaders will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. opening day.

The new 10,000-square-foot store and donation center stands at the site of the former Peppermill Restaurant, which was demolished last year after the dining establishment closed in 2007.

Goodwill's new Westport facility will "better serve both donors and customers by giving Goodwill more selling space, plenty of parking and a covered drive-up donation center, and it will help Goodwill to provide enhanced services to the community," said a statement released by Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut.

Goodwill has operated in Westport for 50 years, beginning in a small store on Riverside Avenue and moving twice before opening in its current location at 1572 Post Road East.

The new Goodwill store will also include a new Goodwill Career Center, which will offer free services to job seekers, including access to computers, a fax machine and a telephone, as well as career counseling.

The statement released Tuesday by Goodwill describes the new store as "the place to shop for high quality designer clothing, antiques and all kinds of household treasures at affordable prices."

The new store also features a mural in its entranceway, which shows items representative of merchandise sold in Goodwill stores. Those items were painted in Goodwill's trademark blue color by individuals in Goodwill's Transitional Employment program.

The new Goodwill Store will be open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m.

to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The store's Career Center will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
