Funeral services will take place Thursday for a 92-year-old Westport woman who died from injuries she suffered in a crash Sunday afternoon on the Sherwood Island Connector.
Cameron was traveling with a friend, Shirley Doyle, in a Honda when they were broadsided about 4 p.m. by a car driven by Olga Hyman, 84, of Edgewater, N.J., who police said drove through a red traffic light.
Cameron, who was in the front-passenger seat, was treated along with Doyle and Hyman at the scene by Westport EMS and then brought to Norwalk Hospital. Doyle was in "satisfactory" condition Monday afternoon, while Hyman was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Firefighters from Greens Farms Engine Co. 5, Rescue Co. 3 and the shift commander were dispatched to the scene of the accident. Because of the severity of the wreck, Engine Co. 2 was also sent to the scene, as firefighters began cutting the trapped occupants of the Honda from the vehicle. The operation took about 20 minutes, according to the fire report.
Cameron was one of the original members of St. Luke Parish in Westport, and remained an active volunteer. She was honored with a St. Augustine Medal of Service from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport several years ago.
Born in Mohawk, N.Y., she had moved to Westport from Albany in 1956. She had been employed in the nuts, bolts and fasteners industry.
She had been active in the Republican Party in Westport, and also had enjoyed bowling.
The funeral will take place at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in the Dougiello Funeral Home, 36 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Luke Church, 84 Long Lots Road, Westport. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Parish, 84 Long Lots Road, Westport, CT 06880.
Condolences can be sent to Cameron's nephew, David Bub at 8 Bona Court, Park Ridge, NJ 07656.
