WESTPORT — With a mission that includes preserving tradition, the Westport Historical Society found it a perfect fit to host a new New Year’s Eve event Monday to replace an old one with the passing of First Night.

The First Light Festival, which was co-hosted by TD Bank, featured crafts for kids, movies, caricatures, carriage rides, face painting, and an outdoor bonfire.

“We are so thrilled we can continue the tradition,” said Alicia D’Anna, director of operations, who came up with the idea.

Having served as a supporting venue for First Night for years, the society may well have started its own new tradition.
