A Westport woman whose foot became entangled under the chair of her home stair lift had to be extricated by firefighters Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 1 p.m. to the Cooper Lane home of the woman, whose identity was not released, and found that her foot was trapped under the chair lift on the second floor.

The woman was using the lift to get down the stairs when she slipped, pinning her left leg and foot under the chair, according to firefighters.

The lift was immobilized, and the woman was freed in about 10 minutes, and she was transported to Norwalk Hospital by a Westport EMS crew.

Officials said firefighters were able to quickly free the woman by using skills they learned in a machinery rescue course all local personnel took within the last two years.
