Fire departments work together to extricate driver
The driver of a pickup truck was transported to Norwalk Hospital with serious injuries Wednesday afternoon after the vehicle struck a tree off the Merritt Parkway.
Westport and Fairfield firefighters had to use several pieces of extrication to remove the driver from the vehicle, which was badly damaged in the accident. The driver was completely removed from the vehicle in 26 minutes after arrival, according to an incident report provided by the Fairfield Fire Department. The driver, whose identity was not released, required advanced life support during the extrication process, officials said.
Fairfield Assistant Fire Chief Scott Bisson, who was the incident commander, stated, "This was a very complicated rescue situation that required both departments to use every rescue tool on scene in order to rescue the driver."
A representative from Norwalk Hospital was not immediately available to provide an update on the status of the patient.
