Fire damaged part of a greenhouse at Daybreak Nurseries on Main Street early Wednesday evening.

The blaze, contained to a wood-drying kiln and rear storage area of the greenhouse at 500 Main St., broke out about 5:30 p.m.

The fire was accidental, according to the Fire Marshal's office.

Four engines and one ladder truck were dispatched to the scene, where the flames were extinguished within minutes of firefighters' arrival. Four Westport volunteer firefighters also helped to douse the blaze.

The fire did not spread beyond the greenhouse.

Daybreak Nurseries planned to be open for business Thursday on the usual schedule, said David Harding, the owner of the nursery and florist business.

"My pride's hurt, that's all," Harding said of the incident.

No injuries were reported.

All of Westport's on-duty firefighters and apparatus were sent to the fire, as well as an engine company from the Wilton Fire Department under an automatic mutual-aid agreement. The Fairfield Fire Department sent a unit to Westport fire headquarters to provide backup coverage
