Megan Loffredo, who has served in several volunteer roles at the Westport Weston Family Y for more than a decade, has been named the organization's 2014 Volunteer of the Year.

Loffredo was honored at the Connecticut Alliance of YMCAs Y Leaders Dinner Oct. 21 in Waterbury, the Family Y said.

A Y volunteer since 2001, Loffredo has served on its board of directors as secretary of its executive committee and currently is chairman of its finance and development committee. She also is a parent volunteer for the Y's Water Rats swim team and is a USA Swimming-certified referee at meets.

In a news release, the Y said Loffredo spends hours on the pool deck during meets and also works behind the scenes to ensure that meets are well-organized and proceed in an orderly way.

A mother of three and a medical doctor, Loffredo is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She has put her career as an obstetrician and gynecologist on hold to concentrate on her family, the Y said.

She serves on the board of the Hopkins School, volunteers with Girl Scouts, rows at the Saugatuck Rowing Club, runs and practices yoga, the Y said.
