WESTPORT — Just after midnight on Dec. 15, an officer observed a woman slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle on Post Road East.

After several attempts, officers successfully roused the driver, who they identified as 54-year-old Carole Sonick, of Rowland Road in Fairfield. Police said the vehicle was running and the break lights were activated.

Officers detected an odor of alcoholic beverage on Sonick’s breath, observed a travel mug containing what appeared to be wine in the console area of her vehicle, and asked her to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed.

Sonick was charged with operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol and drinking while operating a motor vehicle. At police headquarters, Sonick refused to submit to a breath test and was released after posting a $500 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court Dec. 26.
