A stretch of Elm Street will be closed to traffic several hours early Tuesday to allow for the planned relocation of the historic Kemper-Gunn house.

The house will be moved from its Church Lane location to the Baldwin parking lot on Elm Street to make way for construction of the multi-use Bedford Square project on the site of the former Westport Weston Family Y. In its new location, the house will be renovated into commercial space.

The stretch of Elm Street affected by the Tuesday move will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to approximately 8:30 a.m., according to officials.

There will be no impact on Church Lane during the move, officials said.

The Baldwin parking lot will remain open at all times via the westerly access from Elm Street.

Traffic delays and detours in the downtown area, however, may be necessary.
