Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service is offering a two-evening, safe-driving course on Feb. 5 and 8 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.at police and EMS headquarters, 50 Jesup Road.

The National Safety Council defensive-driving course is designed for all motorists, but successful completion may qualify senior citizens for discounts on their auto insurance, EMS said.

The safety council's DD-6 course is conducted entirely in a classroom. The course aims to promote safety and to help prepare drivers to handle some of the difficult situations faced on the road, according to the release.

The cost is $15. Participants must attend both sessions; registration is required.
