Elizabeth (Elma) Jones of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Westport, died March 22, 2010, after a short illness.

She is survived by a brother, Alexander (Red) Hamilton of Naples, Fla.; a son, Bruce Jones of Decatur, Ga.; a daughter, Leslie Jones; and two granddaughters, Katie Cusumano and Kristen Cusumano, of Bermuda.

She was predeceased by her husband, Sam Jones, in 1990.

Born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Jan. 1, 1925, a graduate of Roosevelt High School in 1942, she attended Katharine Gibbs School and went on to a career in advertising and marketing. Jones continued to pursue her career while raising her children, as she worked from home at a time long before such arrangements were common. She maintained a home in Westport for more than 50 years, and a home in Fort Lauderdale for more than 20.

Jones was a tennis player and fan, an avid gardener and a bridge enthusiast who loved to travel. She was active for many years in the Westport Women's Club and the Westport Center for Senior Activities. A dedicated philanthropist, she supported countless charities with causes ranging from protection of endangered species to medical research, to educational institutions.

Private memorial services will be held in Fort Lauderdale and in Westport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the World Wildlife Fund.
