Driver uninjured after car smashes into Westport storefront
The driver of a sports car who lost control of the vehicle on Riverside Avenue was uninjured after crashing into a storefront early Friday, damaging both the vehicle and the building.
The woman told fire personnel at the scene that the gas pedal got stuck on her Chevy Camarro Z-28, causing it to surge into the front of Design Upholstery at 22 Riverside Ave.
The woman was evaluated at the scene by Westport EMS, but did not have to be hospitalized.
The owners of Design Upholstery could not be reached immediately after the incident, which took place about 6:45 a.m.
Firefighters cordoned off the area in front of the building as a safety precaution.
Steve Smith, Westport's building official, was called to the scene to evaluate the structural damage.
Emergency personnel left the scene shortly after 8 a.m.
