Steve Smith, 18, of Maple Avenue South, was charged early Thursday with driving under the influence.
Smith was found asleep in his vehicle parked in the St. Luke's Church parking lot on Turkey Hill Road North, with the car running, a flat front tire and damage to the right front bumper and a side rear-view mirror, police said.
When awoken, Smith said he hit a curb with his car, but did not recall the location, police said. His speech was slurred and the officers could smell an odor of alcohol on his breath, police said. Smith also failed field sobriety tests, police said.
Smith was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and released on $500 bond. He is scheduled to appear June 14 in Norwalk Superior Court.
