The driver of a vehicle in a three-car crash on Interstate 95 in Westport early Friday was hospitalized for treatment of injuries.

The accident, reported about 2:50 a.m. Friday, took place in the highway's northbound lanes between Exits 17 and 18.

There was heavy front-end damage caused to one of the three vehicles -- a Ford Escape SUV -- and its driver was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment of what firefighters said were non-life-threatening injuries.

The other two drivers were not seriously hurt, according to the report.

The highway's middle and left-hand lanes were shut down during emergency operations at the accident scene.

The Fire Department dispatched an engine, a rescue truck and a command car to the scene.
