Driver faces DUI charge in Westport
Police said Herndon was driving north on Riverside Avenue at a "high rate of speed." He then made a right turn at the intersection of Post Road West and Riverside Avenue against a red traffic light where "no turn on red" signs are posted, police said.
He continued east on Post Road East where police said his car twice drifted from the inner lane partially into the outer eastbound lane. Herndon then turned left onto Compo Road North when both of the car's left tires crossed completely over the double-yellow traffic line, police said. Herndon then made a right turn onto East Main Street and again crossed over the double-yellow traffic line, police said.
After Herndon was stopped, an officer smelled alcohol on Herndon's breath and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. Herndon was later taken to Norwalk Hospital for an unrelated issue, police said.
Herndon was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to drive in the proper lane.
He was released on a promise to appear Dec. 28 in Norwalk Superior Court.
