Driver crashes into construction vehicle

A woman was transported to Norwalk Hospital early this morning after her vehicle struck the rear of a construction vehicle on Interstate 95. The driver of the construction vehicle was also transported to the hospital for evaluation, according to an incident report provided by the Westport Fire Department.

Westport firefighers joined the Norwalk Fire Department at the scene on I-95 north between exits 16 and 17 at approximately 3:15 a.m. The woman had to be extricated from her Jeep Grand Cherokee, before transport to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters had to contain approximately 10 to 15 gallons of diesel fuel on site, due to a broken fuel line in the construction vehicle. A representative from the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) was called to the scene and Clean Harbor clean-up contractors were then notified to clean up the spill.

The last fire unit cleared the scene at 5:05 this morning.
