A Bridgeport man was arraigned Monday in Norwalk Superior Court after fleeing a motor vehicle accident Sunday on Interstate 95 in Westport where his car hit a State Police cruiser assisting a disabled vehicle.
A 2005 Toyota Camry driven by Theavy Luong, 31, struck the right front quarter panel of the cruiser at 9:55 p.m. on the southbound side of I-95 just north of Exit 17. The right front tire was torn from the cruiser and struck a tow truck driver in the leg, according to the report. The truck driver, who had been sent to the scene to help with the disabled vehicle, was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with undisclosed leg and foot injuries.
"It was a pretty nasty crash," said Trooper Perry Wilson of Troop G in Bridgeport.
The State Police cruiser was spun counterclockwise and collided with the highway's median barrier, causing extensive damage to the front left quarter panel.
Luong, whose car was disabled by the accident, fled into nearby woods on foot. He was captured with the help of State Police K-9 units and transported to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment of dog bites.
Luong was charged with fleeing the scene of an accident, evading arrest and other motor vehicle charges, according to police.
