‘Dreamscape’ theme set for Westport Arts Center members’ exhibit
Entries from member artists for the Westport Arts Center’s annual juried exhibition, “Dreamscape,” are now being accepted.
Juror for the exhibit is Alexandra Munroe, the Samsung senior curator of Asian art at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, in a statement described the show’s theme: Dreamscapes are forms, colors and images that an artist might see in real or imagined space. A dreamscape could be inspired by an encounter with cosmic phenomena like the sky or a view of organic life glimpsed through a microscope. It could express a psychological state of mind or emotions evoked by music. It could be a painting, drawing, collage, video, photograph or sculpture. It is whimsical.”
Deadline for member artists to submit works is Oct. 16, with late entries accepted through Oct. 23 for an additional $10 fee.
The Dreamscapes exhibition will run from Nov. 20 through next Jan. 9. The annual exhibit traditionally showcases about 200 works by Westport Arts Center members, reflecting a diverse range of subjects and media.
“We are so pleased to have Alexandra Munroe as this year’s juror. She is not only a highly esteemed curator internationally, she also has deep roots and a strong connection to Westport,” Helen Klisser During, the Westport Arts Center’s artistic director, said in a statement announcing the exhibit.
“We look forward to seeing the works created by our talented artist members,” added Klisser During. “Our member exhibitions always inspire extremely thought-provoking and creative interpretations of the theme.”
Member artists may submit up to two pieces of artwork, in any medium, based on the artist’s interpretation of the theme. Details on submission and eligibility guidelines, artwork requirements and entry fee information are available at www.westportartscenter.org.
Selected artists will be notified via email on Nov. 3, and their names will be posted on the arts center’s website.
