An afternoon of autumnal activities, “Reach Out for Outreach,” is planned Saturday by the Westport Arts Center and the Saugatuck Sweets shop.

The program, from 4 to 7 p.m., will take place at the Saugatuck Sweets courtyard, 575 Riverside Ave.

Fall-themed activities are planned, primarily the decoration of pumpkins provided by Saugatuck Sweets at a series of design stations managed by Westport Arts Center volunteers. Artistic techniques used in arts center outreach programs for urban youth and others will be among those offered to help decorate pumpkins.

There also will a raffle for one-of-a-kind pumpkins decorated by local artists to benefit the arts center’s outreach programs.

Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks, courtesy of Saugatuck Sweets, will be available.

The event, according to publicity, “is designed to build awareness and support for the Westport Arts Center’s outreach programs that provide artistic experiences to underserved and unique populations within Fairfield and New Haven counties ... regardless of socio-economic or geographic factors.”

The Westport Arts Center’s outreach programs include “Connections” for urban youth and “WAC Gives Back” for groups such as cancer patients and their caregivers, homeless veterans, senior citizens and children with special needs.

In the 2014-15 academic year, Connections programs involved approximately 500 students in the region. Current and past WAC Gives Back partners include Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven, Bridgeport Hospital, Homes for the Brave, Meadow Ridge and Westport Continuing Education.

A minimum donation of $25 is requested from each family attending the event; reservations should be made by Thursday.
