The public is being recruited for a new Citizens Transit Committee in Westport -- the deadline to sign up is tomorrow (Tuesday, May 1).

"The new committee will examine transit operations in Westport involving the commuter shuttle and after school buses and offer recommendations on how these operations might be more efficient and serve our community better," First Selectman Gordon Joseloff said in a statement.

The ongoing battle over allocations for the Westport shuttle bus network in the 2012-13 budget -- which has yet to be resolved -- has highlighted a need to find ways to operate more efficiently, the first selectman indicated.

"This could involve changes in fees, increased marketing, modified routes and times and other possible actions that will make the transit operations more efficient," Joseloff said.

He said those with experience in transit operations, management consultant work, or similar qualifications would be especially welcome to serve as members of the committee.

Applicants should submit a resume to or via mail to Selectman's Office, 110 Myrtle Ave., Westport, CT 06880.
