A Stamford woman faces drug charges after police said she was scene preparing to inject herself with heroin Sunday in a Post Road East parking lot.

Annabel Rivera, 41, was charged with possession of a controlled substance/narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers were dispatched to the parking lot at 880 Post Road East to investigate the report of a suspicious car. When the first officer arrived, he said he observed the driver, later identified as Rivera, with a syringe and she appeared to be getting ready to inject herself. She was ordered out of the car and, after a search, police said they found a small plastic bag between the driver's seat and the console that contained a brownish powder substance and syringes inside. The substance was tested on the scene and tested positive for heroin, police said.

Rivera was released on a promise to appear Nov. 8 in Norwalk Superior Court.
