Joseph James, 26, of Groton, was charged with having weapons in a motor vehicle about 5:30 p.m. Friday. He was pulled over by police when a computer check revealed that his motor vehicle registration was suspended because of an insurance lapse. After he was stopped, it was also discovered his license was under suspension, police said.
A search of James' vehicle revealed that he was carrying a large martial-arts type sword in the trunk of his vehicle, police said.
Bond was set at $1,000 and James is scheduled to appear Sept. 13 in Norwalk Superior Court.
