WESTPORT — A babysitter’s theft of jewelry and expensive handbags from her employer was exposed by postings on her Facebook page, police said.
The nanny, identified as Lucy Pedroza, was charged Monday on a warrant with second-degree larceny. The 52-year-old Stamford woman also is known as Lucy Chieco and Lucerito Pedroza, according to the report.
Pedroza’s employer told police in August 2013 that jewelry and handbags had been stolen from her home between April 2011 and July 2013, and she subsequently fired the babysitter believed to be responsible for the thefts.
Last December, the resident contact police detectives to report that she had seen a Facebook profile for Pedroza, and the photos posted by Pedroza appeared to show the former babysitter wearing many of the items that had been stolen from the Westport home.
Police secured a warrant to search Pedroza’s apartment, and said that on the premises they found more than 30 handbags, clothing and pieces of jewelry reported missing by her former employer.
Pedroza, after being charged with stealing the possessions, posted $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear March 17 at state Superior Court in Norwalk.
