A child was injured in an early-morning crash between a tractor-trailer truck and car on Interstate 95 in Westport as snow started falling across the region.

The accident on the snow-slick highway took place about 4:45 a.m. between southbound Exits 17 and 16, according to Westport firefighters, who were dispatched to the scene.

A 2003 Toyota Corolla, driven by a Pennsylvania woman traveling with a 5-year-old child, collided with the tractor-trailer, causing the youngster to suffer a head laceration. The highway's center and right lanes were shut down by State Police during emergency operations. The accident scene was cleared about 5:30 a.m.
