Motorists on Friday, June 22, can get the grime off their cars and support Westport's homeless shelters and needy at the same time.

Westport Wash and Wax at 791 Post Road East said it would donate 100 percent of its June 22 car-wash revenues to Homes with Hope, the nonprofit that operates homeless shelters, supportive housing, a community kitchen and a food bank in town.

The car wash in open on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to its website.

The fundraiser is the car wash's annual Good Neighbor Day, launched 12 years ago by owners to give something back to the community, Homes With Hope said in a news release.

Homes with Hope said members of its board of directors and staff would be at the car wash to greet motorists and thank them for their support.

Westport Wash and Wax is run by partners Scott and Craig Tiefenthaler and says it is the town's only locally owned car wash.

It bills its process as environmentally safer than washing a car in a driveway because grease and oils are filtered from wastewater so they don't leach into groundwater. It also conserves water, according to its website, because much of the filtered wastewater can be reused.

The car wash has donated more than $50,000 in revenues to Homes with Hope over the past dozen years, the charity said.

"The Tiefenthalers give to the community every day -- in the `green' way their operations are set up and in the number of organizations they support," Jeff Wieser, Homes with Hope president and CEO said in the news release.
