Westport Wash & Wax, the Post Road East car wash, has donated an entire day's proceeds to Homes With Hope for the 14th consecutive year.

Car wash owners Scott and Craig Tiefenthaler on June 24 presented a check for $6,500 to the nonprofit agency, which provides shelter and meals to the homeless operates a food pantry for the needy.

Homes With Hope said the money represented 100 percent of the car wash's sales on June 20th, which Westport Wash & Wax designated as Good Neighbor Day.

The business first donated a day's proceeds to the nonprofit in 2001, and since then its donations have totaled $70,000, the agency said in a news release.

"The Tiefenthalers are incredibly generous to Homes with Hope and to the community," Jeff Wieser, the agency's president and chief executive officer said in the release. "Their bulletin board is packed with thank you letters for all the good things they do."

The solar-powdered car wash at 791 Post Road East has won awards as an environmental model for its industry. Westport Wash & Wax recycles all water used in its process and uses biodegradable products, according to the release.
