WESTPORT — Slick road conditions caused two car accidents on the Merritt Parkway Wednesday morning.

The second time, firefighters were dispatched to the area of Exit 42 southbound around 11 a.m. in response to notification of a car accident with injuries. Westport and Fairfield fire departments and emergency medical services arrived to find a three-vehicle accident with multiple passengers.

One car crashed into the back of a commercial van, causing severe damage to the car. A third car sustained minor damage from the impact. A van occupant required medical evaluation and was transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment while all other occupants refused medical evaluation.

Traffic returned to normal around 11:45 a.m. when all vehicles were removed from the scene and the last fire department unit left.

Westport fire warned travelers the weather caused ice to form under the snow resulting in slick road conditions.

“If you need to travel, please use extra caution when driving. Leave extra space between vehicles, slow down and never use your phone or other devices that will cause distraction while driving,” the fire department said in a release.
