The number of new deaths attributed to the coronavirus fell Sunday and hospitalizations continued to decline even as the number of new infections rose slightly from the day before.

State officials recorded 18 new deaths from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, according to data released by Gov. Ned Lamont’s office Sunday afternoon. The new deaths brings the death toll in Connecticut to 3,693.

Around the state, 701 people remain hospitalized for the disease, down by 23 cases from the day before. Most of the hospitalizations and deaths have been reported in Fairfield (1,215 deaths, 232 hospitalized), Hartford (1,175 deaths, 164 hospitalized) and New Haven (903 deaths, 254 hospitalized) counties.

But as hospitalizations continued to fall over the weekend, health officials reported 446 new infections, bringing the total number of cases in the state up to 40,468.
