For area families, there was no better place to be on a Sunday summer afternoon than the Westport Weston Family Y's Camp Mahackeno, which hosted its third of four "Summer Sunday" programs of the season.

Staged on the Family Y's expansive property at 14 Sunny Lane -- where the Y plans a new home for itself -- the event featured archery, a zipline, canoeing, a pool and a rock-climbing wall.

The pool was particularly popular as Westport parent Kathie Fording and her four children attested. Though a town resident for 15 years, she and her family had never been to one of the Y's Sunday events. "In looking for something different to do, the kids like the various activities offered here. It's a great alternative to Longshore," she said.

Ten-year-old Keylii Hinton's mother, sitting by watching her son splash around, said the Sunday programs are great, especially for kids who have a lot of energy they need to burn off.

The final Summer Sunday sponsored by the Westport Weston Famil Y is July 29, from noon to 4 p.m., at Camp Mahackeno. For information, call 203-226-8981 or check
